Yardage Book Cover Review - Ace of Clubs Golf Company

May 21, 2018

What should you look for when buying a yardage book cover?

That’s the question I asked myself when I started researching yardage book covers recently as I’ve seen an increase in companies offering them for sale. A scorecard holder is not a necessity to play the game of golf and most weekend warriors might question your golf purchases when you show up to the course sporting a brand new yardage book cover instead of a new bag or putter.

But to the diehard golfer, it is part of your identity and has that “cool” factor when you customize it to your heart’s desires.

I’ve come up with a couple of questions you should ask yourself when thinking about buying a yardage book cover or scorecard holder, either for yourself or as a present for close friends or family. I plan to highlight several brands so that you can make an informed decision the next time you buy a yardage book cover.

Material:

Most companies who specialize in golf accessories are now using a combination of leather, fabric, and stitching as it is long lasting, tough, and ages beautifully over time. But to those of you who are looking for something a little more exotic or with a different material completely, I’d suggest you look at our friends over at Ace of Clubs Golf Company. They caught my eye when they started making holders out of genuine cork bark that can include custom logos from practically any JPEG or PDF file.

Daniel, who owns and operates Ace of Clubs, was kind enough to send us a fully customized cork yardage book holder for a product review and he did not disappoint. Ace of Clubs wanted to start making some of their items from natural, renewable resources to keep them eco-friendly and I must say, the cork is a really cool material when in hand. I honestly have no idea what the process is from start to finish, but take a look at the starting point of his cork products.

The cork has the same “flexibility” of soft leather and holds and maintains its shape nicely. It’s easy to flip open and the elastic straps make it easy to hold your scorecard, pin sheets, pencils or yardage books. The cork quality is “Grade A” and is naturally water resistant, something that I like even more as I play most of my golf in the PNW.

Functionality:

As someone who prefers to walk when I play, I really have come to enjoy the functionality of yardage book holders as it allows a stable surface to write on when out on the golf course. It can be embarrassing to drop your scorecard, pin sheets, or other items when reaching into your pocket so it organizes those items like it should. The dimensions of the holder are 7” x 4.25” and fits in my back pocket, neatly and securely and stay’s put, just like it should when walking up/down the course.

Customization:

This is actually my 2nd product from Ace of Clubs, as I received a customized Driver Cover from them last year.

The cover, which featured our old logo was etched into the leather from a JPEG image that I supplied them with. The new cork yardage book cover features our new logo as well as the logo of my club which again, were sent over as JPEG file formats. The customized logo is etched into the cork and looks sharp and crisp, even with the small details of the mill/water of the clubs logo. You can add custom engraving or add a logo on any cork product through Ace of Clubs for an extra $10 which is very reasonable in our opinion.

Price:

Speaking about prices, the cork scorecard holder is on the “cheaper” side of the spectrum from most companies nowadays, retailing at $39.00 before any desired customized options you would like to add. Ace of Clubs Co sells most of their leather yardage books at $59.00 so you get a slight discount when purchasing the cork products.

Customer Service:

Ace of Clubs sent a tracking number to my email when the product was picked up and sent on its way to my shipping address. A nice surprise was the customized accessory pouch and ball marker that was sent with the cover!

Their website is nicely laid out and is easy to navigate. Adding in customized text or file formats is easy, and they even have stock logos (ACE, Bones, Cash, Crown, Luck) to choose from if you don’t have a custom logo you want to include.

Stock orders are shipped out immediately, while custom orders ship in 5-7 days after your purchase.

If you’re in the market for customized, unique, and quality golf accessories, give Ace of Clubs a look or comment below and we would be happy to share our experience with you!
